St. Andrew’s Church, Weaverthorpe

Enjoy the wonders of this beautiful historic church, re-built in the early twelfth century by Herbert the Chamberlain, and given to his son, the future St William of York – and restored by the great Victorian architect G.E. Street for Sir Tatton Sykes II of Sledmere.

 

 

Guided tours of the church, its monuments, furnishings and stained glass, at 11 am, 1pm and 3pm, by Phil Thomas, Secretary to the Diocesan Advisory Committee on Churches

Guided tours of the medieval manor sites at 12, 2 pm and 3.30 pm, by Pete Wilson

Demonstrations of stone carving by the master mason, Matthias Garn, and David Land, winner of the English Heritage National Award for Apprentice of the Year – and a chance to try!

Exhibitions on Sykes churches, St William’s Window at York Minster, & Weaverthorpe history

Children’s activities and treasure hunts – and teas & cakes!
