The trustees of this trust are purely volunteers.
None of them has ever been paid for his or her work as trustee, although some have been paid their travel expenses. In fact, it is a term of the trust that a trustee may not receive any benefit from the trust, so none can be paid any fee by the trust. Each of us has our own jobs.
The work which the trustees do is all done in their own time. They do it because they are committed to helping people to open up their churches, to learn about and to appreciate them, and to enjoy them. Churches are the single greatest contribution made by the built heritage to the environment and history of the East Riding: we only have a few country houses, and a few secular buildings of comparable importance.
