St Augustine’s church, Hedon proved the perfect venue for the trust’s Making Applications for Grants workshop on a beautifully sunny afternoon on 26th April.
A good number attended and were able to enjoy a fascinating talk by Dr. Martin Craven. Dr. Craven provided a wonderful introduction to this Historic Church and surrounding area, which helped those attending to focus on the importance of the heritage with which we have been entrusted.
Those attending the workshop were provided with an extensive file of handouts, which was worked through and explained as part of the workshop by Catharine Otton-Goulder.Using real-world examples from St Lawrence’s Church, Sigglesthorne, East Yorkshire, the workshop detailed, how and when to apply, documents and information needed for applications, how to manage applications.
A list of current grant giving organisations and their criteria was explained, including the type of activity likely to be supported by them.
The workshop also covered ways churches could raise funds themselves ranging from old favourites to some more contemporary ideas.
Following the main workshop, Dr. David Neave delivered a short presentation on how to apply for monies under the WREN Landfill Scheme, including which areas were included.
Following the presentations those attending were able to quiz the trustees and enjoy refreshments provided by St Augustine’s in their excellent and sympathetically fitted facilities.
